How to listen to podcasts

On your smartphone or tablet

One of the most convenient ways to listen to podcasts, enabling you to listen out and about, is through your smartphone. There are many apps for podcast listening available to download for free, including Apple Podcasts which is already built in for iPhone users, and Google Podcasts for Android users. Both will enable you to browse, stream and download podcasts.

Listening on smartphone enables you to connect to a Bluetooth speaker or listen in your car.

On a smart speaker

It’s easy to listen to podcasts on smart speaker devices, such as Google Home and Amazon Echo. Using the wake word, ask the device to play the podcast by name, followed by your chosen app, and it will play the most recent episode.  For example, ‘Alexa, play [Podcast]on BBC Sounds.’ You can select your chosen radio app through your assistant settings on your smartphone.

You can also listen to podcasts on your smart speaker using Bluetooth.

On an internet-enabled smart radio

If you use an internet-enabled smart radio you will find podcasts listed within the main menu of the devices home screen. You may find it easier to navigate to your chosen podcast using the device control app on your smartphone.

On a website

You can search for podcasts on your web browser from your PC or laptop.  Simply navigate to the podcast home page and look for the play button.
